FACIAL PARALYSIS

Doctors have a duty to help mothers and children stay safe during a delivery. However, physicians can fail in this important responsibility if they make mistakes while using common delivery room instruments or techniques. These errors can potentially lead to nerve damage for the infant, causing potentially permanent facial paralysis.

If your baby has developed facial paralysis because of a doctor’s mistakes, you may be entitled to pursue compensation from that individual for your family’s pain and suffering. For more information regarding you malpractice claim options, contact the compassionate St. Louis birth injury lawyers of the Finney Law Office today by calling 314-646-0300.

Symptoms of Facial Paralysis

Facial paralysis is often linked to a doctor’s misuse of forceps or other medical instruments during delivery. However, it may also occur because of dangerous birthing procedures.

The following signs may be present when an infant suffers from facial paralysis:

  • The lower portion of the face does not move with the rest of the face
  • The sides of the mouth may move unequally
  • The eyelid on one side of the face may not completely close
  • Facial features on a particular side may not move at all

These symptoms are often most obvious when a child is crying or eating. While facial paralysis often heals with time, some cases may be permanent.
