The St. Louis music scene is one of the most vibrant in the country. There is always a place to go during the summer in Missouri with concerts, dances, and fun times in the community — especially in the summer, when the weather is warm. One of the most popular music events in St. Louis is the Whitaker Music Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The outdoor event is a great way to simultaneously enjoy the beauty of the gardens and the music. Some of the area’s most talented musicians make an appearance on stage and perform free concerts for patrons. If you bring your family or a group of friends, you can sit on the lawn with chairs, drinks, and a picnic basket of food and enjoy the evening together. The garden also sells sandwiches, hot dogs, desserts, beer, wine, and soda. Commonly, people arrive at the park early to enjoy the scenery and community, and the kids can run off some summer energy around the park before sunset. This is a popular event for native St. Louis community members, but is also a fantastic spectacle for visitors from out of town The music festival begins on June 4 and goes through Aug. 6 and takes place on Wednesday evenings (you have quite a few opportunities to go even if your summer schedule is packed). The concerts are all free (as well as admission to the garden) and the music starts at 7:30 p.m., but you can arrive at whatever time is convenient for you. So, if you’re looking for something musical, relaxing, and completely free to do in St. Louis this summer then pick a Wednesday to attend the Whitaker Music Festival.
