If you and your family are fans of chicken nuggets, it’s time to check your freezer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service has announced that Tyson Foods Inc., located in Sedalia, Missouri, will recall more than 75,000 pounds of product. The product being recalled is frozen, fully cooked chicken nuggets. They may be contaminated with foreign matter.
The recall was initiated after Tyson Foods Inc. received complaints from customers that there were small pieces of plastic in the chicken nuggets. The company received reports of injury to the mouth from consumption of the plastic pieces; however, the Food and Safety Inspection Service has received no other injury reports. Since the consumer complaints were received, Tyson Foods has been able to trace the problem to a product scraper in a blending machine.
Dan Fogelman, a spokesman for the company, said that the recalled products were produced over two days on one line and that “Tyson Foods has inspected all lines at the production facility to ensure product quality standards are being met and has implemented corrective measures at all of its facilities to prevent similar occurrences from happening.”
The following Tyson Foods Inc. products are subject to USDA recall:
- 5-pound bags of “Tyson Fully Cooked White Meat Chicken Nuggets – 16142-928.” The bag will have a “best if used by” date of either January 26, 2015, or February 16, 2015. The bag will bear manufacturer codes 0264SDL0315 through 19 and 0474SDL0311 through 14.
- 20-pound bulk packs of “Spare Time Fully Cooked Nugget Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters w/Rib Mean – 16142-861” with identifying case codes 0264SDL0315 through 19 and 0474SDL0311 through 14.
The product bags have the establishment number P-13556.
If you have any of the recalled bags in your freezer, discard the product. However, before you toss it in the trash, remove the UPC and date code for a refund. Simply mail it to:
