Two pedestrians are in critical condition after a hit-and-run that occurred on Wednesday. The man responsible for the accident is now in custody.
The 40-year-old University City man faces the charge of leaving the scene of an accident, which is a Class D felony. Police believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the pedestrian accident. The pedestrians, a 43-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were next to their own vehicle around 1:30 a.m. when they were hit by the oncoming car.
According to a police report of the accident, the driver stopped to help the injured pedestrians, stating that he had only noticed the accident. His vehicle was later found with a dented windshield.
The bail for this case is set at $15,000.
