AVOIDING TRUCK ACCIDENTS

Truck drivers often drive long distances and often face pressure to deliver their cargo on time, sometimes causing truck drivers to make reckless decisions, such as relying on stimulants to stay awake, carrying oversized or unbalanced loads, or failing to take adequate breaks. These combined factors can prove to be disastrous and can cause serious accidents.

Drive with Caution Near Big Trucks

Many motorists fail to realize the dangers of driving near semi trucks. The next time you are driving near a big truck, keep the following facts in mind:

Trucks cannot brake quickly. If you need to pass a truck or change lanes in front of a truck, make sure you leave plenty of extra room between your car and the 18-wheeler. When cars cut too closely in front of large trucks and then hit their brakes, they run the risk of causing a collision.

Truck drivers cannot always see your car. Trucks have no rear-view mirror, and their length and height increase their blind spots. Even with multiple mirrors, a truck driver still may not be able to see your vehicle. Avoid accidents by staying out of truck blind spots, and remember that if you cannot see a truck’s mirrors, the driver cannot see your vehicle.

When driving near big trucks, use added caution to avoid preventable accidents.
