Why Isn’t My Medical Insurance Covering My Hospital Bills?

We have many clients who have private health insurance. After an accident, the hospital that they visit, the emergency room, will tell them, “Hey, this was a third party liability accident.” They will not submit the bills to the client’s health insurance. This is an issue that people were having because the hospital is trying to take a larger chunk of the client’s recovery, of the client’s personal injury settlement. What we recommend the client does is an instance like this. They take their bill. They call the hospital or they call the collection agency. They say, “Listen. I have private health insurance. I have a contract with my health insurance. You have a contract with my health insurance to provide me benefits at a certain price. We demand that you honor that contract and have them submit it.” Because otherwise, the hospital’s going to try and collect that through a lien against your settlement.

You have the right to have your health insurance that you’ve paid for, honor any bills you’ve incurred from any hospital result of any injury. If you have an issue with this, you need to call us at 314-646-0300.
