Ford Motor Co. has announced the recall of nearly a half a million vehicles after two different mechanical problems were found with them.
The first recall is of Mercury Monterrey and Freestar minivans because they vehicles were losing motor power. This recall affects more than 206,000 of the 2004 and 2005 model of the vans. Although the loss of motor power still allows the car to stop and steer, it increases this risk of a car crash.
The loss of power is due to a defective torque converter. Nearly 245,000 Ford Escape SUVs have also been recalled due to a leaky brake fluid cap. This leak can cause wiring to corrode, which can eventually lead to the wire melting, smoking or catching on fire.
